Living near the sea in Porto Pozzo was one of my most wonderful adventures. The northwest wind off the Tyrrhennian Sea bent the cork trees almost double and inspired the swirling twill and arrows woven with five graduated widths of cane. The doubled rim features a smoked reed bumper sewn with artificial sinew. Hand sculpted of polymer clay, the lid's scalloped details are reminiscent of the centered shell's smoothed openings.  The ever-present olive trees whose fruit we gathered, pressed and enjoyed find representation in the leafy border.  Overdyed with walnut shells from my farm and finished with shellac. Functional as well as decorative.
